Catifa Carta chair has a shell entirely made of PaperShell, an innovative material derived from paper. PaperShell significantly reduces the chair’s environmental footprint by doing what trees do: storing carbon dioxide captured by trees. At the end of its life, the shell can be transformed into biochar, a form of charcoal that locks in the CO2 captured and returns it to the earth.
A REVOLUTIONARY
MATERIAL
Catifa Carta’s shell is made of 29 sheets of paper bonded with a 100% natural resin binder. Paper used to produce PaperShell is sourced responsibly, utilizing residues from Swedish wood production. No trees are cut to produce PaperShell.
At the end of its lifecycle, Catifa Carta can undergo pyrolysis, a burning process that happens in the absence of oxygen, hence preventing CO2 release in the atmosphere. Through pyrolysis PaperShell is converted into biochar, a resource for enriching soil and supporting biodiversity.
Born from advanced scientific research, PaperShell addresses climate challenges practically. By choosing Catifa Carta, you can also make a positive impact on the planet—bringing sustainability into every detail of your space.

CATIFA CARTA’S
KEY FEATURES
Reduced environmental impact
Crafted from 29 layers of paper bonded with natural resin, the shell retains throughout its lifecycle the CO2 captured by trees, significantly reducing its environmental footprint.
End of life management
At the end of its life, through pyrolysis, Catifa Carta’s shell can be transformed into biochar, a high-carbon substance that effectively retains CO2.
A circular design
Through this process, the loop is closed. Waste turns into a resource for enriching soil and supporting biodiversity. The Catifa Carta shell is carbon negative.
